Wind Energy Information

Introduction to information on wind energy :

The energy stored in the moving wind, is called Wind Energy. Kinetic Energy is the main source of energy stored in the winds. Winds are formed due to unequal heating of the land mass and ocean. Moreover, the local conditions and rotations of the earth, demo graphical features of the concerned place, sea, deserts etc , all determine the velocity of the wind. The kinetic energy of the wind is used to generate the electricity. In the recent years, there has been a great interest in producing electric energy from the wind energy, by using windmills, especially in the rural areas. The windmills that generate electricity are conventional in their propeller design, which employs two or tapered blades.

Information on generation of electricity from wind energy:

The shaft of the windmill is connected to the shaft of the armature of the generator. When the fast moving wind rotates the blades of the windmill, its shaft rotates the armature inside the generator. The rotating armature products electric current. Thus, kinetic energy of the wind is converted into electricity.

Having problem with Average Velocity Formula keep reading my upcoming posts, i will try to help you.

Information on Wind Energy Potential :

The amount of electric energy produced depends upon the velocity of the wind. Thus, electric wind machines have been designed which have a capacity of 1MW to 5 MW. The electricity generated by a single windmill is small and cannot be used for commercial purposes. Therefore, a number of windmills are set up over a large area known as wind energy farms. The electric energy produced by harnessing the energy of wind is not very dependable as wind does not blow all the time. Thus, some backup source of electric energy is always needed, when the wind is not blowing. Wind energy farms cannot be established every where. They can be established only at such places, where the wind blows at minimum speed of 15 Km/h for the most part of the year.
